The Rotary Club of South Brisbane through a generous donation from the Interactors at Yeronga High School were able, with the added assistance of family and friends, to assemble 10 artificial hands ready for transportation to Cambodia early in 2015.

Young and old were all able to assist from assembly to decorating the sturdy and protective pouches each hand is sent with.

Donations in Kind

sc001af003Donations in Kind is a fabulous program by which Rotary receives hospital and school equipment, books and much more that is being upgraded within our schools and hospitals and then sends them by container to our near neighbours in PNG, the Solomons and other Pacific Islands.

In 2014 we anticipate loading our 700th container and a wonderful fundraising and celebratory night is under planning.

January 2011 Brisbane Flood Work

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANo sooner than the flood waters abated than Rotary was helping clean up. Clubs from the bay area really swung into action with a busload of men and high pressure hoses and generators. Later a massive garage sale gave away household items to those affected and raised $80 000 in sales. Members of South Brisbane Club assisted wherever the mud army took them as well as to those known personally to the club as past members and their spouses.

In the aftermath funds from our sister club of Amagasaki East were used to buy new white goods for families in the Lockyer Valler, to host a mental health first aid course and to support 3 local families financially.

Time was spent sorting and distributing the avalanche of donated goods that came from all over Australia, not only for people but family pets too.

Special Children’s Picnic

IMG_4643 IMG_0777 IMG_0748Every year since 1948 the Rotary Club of South Brisbane has hosted a picnic day for the children of the Special Schools of the Southside of Brisbane.

Children’s Picnic October 2010 Report :  Greg Skyring

We had the best turn out for years with a total of 440 people in attendance made up of 220 children, 200 carers and 20 others. Unfortunately, the usual boats from National Parks and Wildlife and Water Police were unable to make the day but the children enjoyed themselves.  There are many people to thank:

  • Mater Hospital for catering for 220 adults and 220 children
  • Music Man for entertainment
  • Nestle for donating the trailer and ice-blocks
  • IGA Daisy Hill for supplying drinks and water
  • IGA Fresh at Rocklea for donating fruit
  • Amalgamated Food Supplies for chocolates & lollies Big Chill for donating the food trailer
  • Rotaractors for face-painting
  • Bruce Hartwig and friends for donating their time and vehicles for the Trike rides
  • Fire Brigade
  • Police
  • Bronwyn Skyring for her support and organisation – and for encouraging all those donations.
